Hello, everyone! How are you doing? I hope you guys are doing really well! Today's post is going to be about my American experience! To remain as anonymous as I can, I will not be saying what the program is called but I will drop hints. My American experience was the best thing I had ever done in my ENTIRE life! I am being 10000000% genuine on this! I miss this more than anything and will do anything to go back and do it all over again! I have grown so much as a person during and after that trip that I would love to share the tale! Let's get started!
So back in July I saw this thing Premiere, advertise on apps, youtube, twitter and google. This program is an amazing performing arts program that gives you opportunities to be showcased in front of industry professionals and talent agents. I was and still sort of am a shy person. I don't know what went in me but I signed myself up for it. The auditions were at the end of August. I got through the auditions (which I did write a whole blog post about which you can see here). I was then signed up to attend the program.
I signed up for level 3. That means 6 showcases which were perfect for me. I roughly performed around 30-36 agents which is amazing considering 50 agents attended. Within the time period between August and December, I had training via face time with my incredible mentor. I could not have done it with out my mentor. She was so caring and kind and she helped a newbie like me.
Time flew and the calendar said it was already December. So, my mum and I flew to Orlando, Florida to attend the program. I did not expect what I was letting myself in for. Can I say that there were professional actors already attending the program? I was so proud of myself because I must have been pretty good if I can get to be on the same level as proper professionals. There were also celebrities there. There was Peyton List (many know her as Emma from Jessie and Bunk'd), Spencer List (Peyton's twin brother and actor), Madison Hu (who plays Frankie from Bizaardvaark) and Hayden Byerly (the program's Alumni, Jude from the Fosters and the guy who attended my audition) The first night included going to register so it was a pretty chilled day. I was given a folder filled with everything I would need during the week.
The second day I had a celebrity-intensive with the Lists. What a celebrity-intensive is is that you hear the celebrities talk about their experience and then there's a meet and greet. Sadly, only levels 3-5 (the max level is 5) can attend the celebrity intensive. This day I also met up with my group and made amazing friends which I still talk to today. This day everyone practised their comedic monologues in front of the group and our group leaders. Later was the opening ceremony of the program. There the CEO of the Program talked about what the program is gonna be like and how we've all done so well for even getting to the program.
The third day consisted of an industry Q&A panel. I learned so much from that panel and one thing that I learned was that it doesn't matter where you are based in the world because everything is based on the US Dollar. American commercials, films and TV shows are filmed in Australia so you can be Australian and be on an American production. That was reassuring for me as I live far from America. This is also why 50 agents from around the world came and from different specialities (e.g modelling, singing (which are added extras if you pay) extras etc.). After the Q&A session came your practice sessions with your group and your group mentors. I had such an amazing time and one memory I have is that no parents were allowed and the rooms were absolutely FREEZING! These sessions were so fun as you were given loads of advice and made so many new friends. During the evening was a dance party. That was the best party I had ever been too! I met up with all my new best friends and watched a dance battle performed by the celebrities.
Fourth day was the beginning day of showcases. Firstly, everyone had to walk a massive catwalk in front of the 50 agents and in front of the 1000+ people in the room. That was so scary yet so fun! I even hugged one of my friends there because we were so scared and excited/nervous! The day then consisted of more performances. This day also had the celebrity meet and greet and that was fun as you talked to the celebrities and took photos with them!
Fifth day was another day of performances. It was a great day and I felt so proud of myself because I felt I did great! Later that night was the award ceremony. That ceremony was probably a highlight of my week. I didn't receive any awards but there was a lip sync battle between the celebrities and it was the best thing I had ever watched in my entire life! It was so fun!
Six day was sadly the last day of the program but probably one of the most important days. This was the name drop/ handing in resume day with getting your callbacks day. I dropped my headshot and resume to all 50 agents and managed to have a short conversation with them and I was able to make some of them laugh! Haha! Now, my best friend there was I believe better than me during the experience but she didn't receive any callbacks. I felt so bad but I was able to receive 2 callbacks! Which was amazing for me! I was basically glowing of happiness. I then met the agents interested in me and one of them told me they were only picking 5 talents/performers that were not from where he was from so that was a huge achievement for me and he also said he would've been totally shocked if I wouldn't receive any callbacks because I did so well and so to be safe, he gave me a callback to tell me how amazing I had done and he would like to do work with me! I was so happy. I then left the room and that marked the end of the best week of my entire life!
Overall, the program I had attended was the best thing in my entire life and I cried when I got home because I miss it so dearly and more than anything!
